Brought my 2012 Subaru Forester in for a general inspection before taking a long road trip. They recommended the normal maintenance items like air filters, differential, spark plugs, etc. They also recommended resealing the timing cover because it was leaking. This is an expensive service but the car is 10 years old so I figured to go ahead and do it. In the process of completing all of the services "the key way fell out of the harmonic balancer and got lodged in the timing chain causing one side of the motor to spin and one side to not". I'm still not entirely sure what this means but due to this the engine had to be replaced! Instead of getting our car back the next day, due to the holidays and other delays we got it back 13 days later. The timing was terrible because it caused a change in our plans for the road trip, but South Denver Auto did everything they could to accommodate us. They supplied us with a loaner vehicle when we needed one, and we did not have to pay any more than the original estimate for the maintenance services. The vehicle was returned and has been working fine, except for a slight smell of burning oil due to it spraying everywhere inside the engine compartment. But Mike said that should go away in a short time. We have been taking our vehicles to South Denver Auto for over 10 years and never had anything like this happen before. Yes it was a major pain to deal with it, especially during the holidays, but they were very apologetic and accommodating. Accidents happen.
