It did suffer from growing pains, as owners of the model year 2009 reported intake manifold failures, and timing chain tensioner problems. 2010 model saw reports of main oil seal leaks, and turbo charger failures. Later models showed fewer problem reports and of lesser severity.

Volkswagen Atlas, a midsize SUV has been available starting with the 2018 model year. Early vehicles have seen some engine problem repairs, and cooling system issues. Newer models see few problem reports.

Earlier Jetta models, like the 2006 which suffered from check engine light and camshaft failure, and 2010 model which faced electrical system issue, gave Jetta a bit of a negative reputation. 2019 model year turned out to have bad reputation due to transmission issues. Yet overall, Jetta quality has improved and it is a roomy vehicle that handles very well.
